GMail

GMail, the answer to EMail, with sometimes the reliability of snail mail! For all of you who are experiencing technical difficulties sync'ing your PDAs to GMail, be aware that there has been a server outage and that it will be resolved in the next 12hrs. Since GMail does not support IMAP, many of us, and thank you to all those who have been sending me comments about this, have found that either it does not POP most recent mail or it inappropriately POPs old OLD mail.

So how to fix this. First change your setting in your GMAIL account to say that you only want mail from this date forward (fixes the old problem).

Be aware that GMail (and they don't explicitly say this) does not support mail being "left on the server." This is addressed in the actual GMail settings page and is configured on the GMail end, NOT the device end.
Also ensure that you're using the following settings below in your account. Good luck and happy GMailing (if it eventually works!)

Incoming Mail (POP3) Server - requires SSL: pop.gmail.com
Use SSL: Yes
Port: 995
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server - requires TLS: smtp.gmail.com (use authentication)
Use Authentication: Yes
Use STARTTLS: Yes (some clients call this SSL)
Port: 465 or 587
Account Name: your Gmail username (including '@gmail.com')
Email Address: your full Gmail email address (username@gmail.com)
Password: your Gmail password

Please note that if your client does not support SMTP authentication, you won't be able to send mail through your client using your Gmail address.
