Frustrations

So today has been one heck of a day. I'll admit it, I'm a firm believer in the one device world. I think you should have your email, internet, phone, music, news, and camera all in one device. The Treo has been the answer to my desire, but now it's time to debrief you all on the Treo life.

The Treo is an OUTSTADNING device as whole. However, it's not really an outstanding PDA, with 24mb memory and a sluggish processor. It's not really an outstanding Phone, with a Palm OS constantly running in the background. It's functionality as an MP3 player is limited by its jack size. Its camera is still under 1.0mp. And the email programs all leave a lot to be desired. However, this is still the best device out there that can combine all the features we all want, but it should be noted that if you're looking to buy a phone, buy a phone; looking to buy a camera, buy a camera, and obviously if looking to buy a PDA, buy the new Tungsten X (see previous post).

I've now had to reboot the device with soft resets 79 times since my purchase 34 days ago. I've officially crashed the device 6 times requiring hard resets and full reinstallatins. I've had to reformat the SD card twice. And I've reinstalled both versamail and chattermail more times than I'd care to remember (ie countless hours of productivity lost).

With all of this noted, realize that this is a device that attempts to combine a lot of functions, so don't overload it, don't overtax it, and use it as a combo device, with the goal of minimizing each of the above functions but maintaining some semblance of utility in each of those functions.
