treo, Treo, TREO!-- What's new (part 1)
So let me just start by saying that I've played with Treos in the past. A large percentage of my friends/classmates have Treo 600s, and while I loved the Palm functionality, a couple things irked me. Specifically the "crash-ability" of the device when running programs such as Epocrates, the fact that the battery was non-removable, and the overall "seamless integration" just wasn't there.
Well Palm has definitely fixed everything that I hoped, and made some amazing advancements!
1) The resolution of the new (320x320) screen is simply-- beautiful! I'll be filling you in on a neat little program tomorrow when I do my Weekend Fun product review, but let me just say, the brightness, clarity, and sharpness of the screen is far above and beyond the Treo 600, and definitely surpasses the competition!
2) FINALLY there is a removable battery! This was probably the single biggest drawback to the Treo 600. I believe that if you have a device, you should be able to use the device to it's fullest extent. Since this is my ONLY phone and communication with the outside world, not having the ability to keep a spare battery was not only annoying, it kept me from buying! Well now that you can get spare batteries and easily swap them out, we're all ALOT happier! And in case you're wondering, the Treo 650 has a non-volatile file system meaning that when you replace your battery you KEEP your memory-- so go watch movies, listen to MP3s, browse the web, and do whatever else you want, beacuse your only battery limit will be how many batteries you can keep in your pocket! (ps the new improved batteries give 5 hours of talk time and 300 hours of standby)
3) All hail the Bluetooth power! I don't think I have to say much more about this point, but now you can sync via bluetooth, talk via bluetooth, listen via bluetooth, and even GPS via bluetooth. Nice feature for those of us who tend to get tangled in wires.
4) Camera/Camcorder-- FUN (and important)! In light of the recent events in London, I'm sure you're all well aware, that the most compelling footage came from mobile devices. Whether you're in the clinic, in the OR, on the wards, or just hanging out, you now have the ability to take outstanding photos AND video!
5) Musica via Real Player! Real Player now comes standard on the Treo 650. You can seamlessly download songs/lectures/podcasts to your Treo via the desktop droplet and listen to anything and everything that your heart desires.
