Should you buy a high-end PDA for medical purposes ?

I was going through the newest PDA releases. They all have nice big color screens, a lot of connectivity options, more powerful processors and more memory. There are so many people everyday who want to buy a new PDA for use in the medical field, but do not even know where to start. Some end up buying the most expensive PDA because they think it is "the best" with the most options.

I have been using Pocket PCs and PalmOS PDAs for several years, and still have to see an application that requires all the processing power that the newer PDAs have. Certainly if you want to game, use the Internet, then you probably need one of these powerful devices. If I had to choose one of the features that are most desirable, I would put them in this order: memory, expandability, size, screen quality, processing power. I can not advise you on which platform is best, as this is a very controversial and debatable choice. Both platforms are well served by multiple good models. In terms of cost benefit ratio, currently I would rate these models at the top of my list: PalmOS: Tungsten E and Zire 72; Pocket PC: Dell Axim X30. You can even save more money by buying them refurbished or open-boxes. I have bought 3 refurbished PDAs, and have not had any problems with them. I would think that anything over US$250 is too much for a PDA, at least what most users would need for medical usage.
