Review: Archimedes Medical Calculator
I am using Archimedes on my Pocket PC for about 3 months. So far it has helped me a lot, and it seems to have almost all the formulas that I needed. I reviewed only the Pocket PC version, but they do offer a Palm OS version as well.
I like the small size of the application, about 0.66 MB for PalmOS and 0.53 MB for Pocket PC. Installation was a bit problematic, not because of the application itself, but because of the Activesync problems that I have been having with my Dell Pocket PC. Otherwise it worked very well, and you can choose to install it in a memory card.
Usage: I like the ability to have 1-click access to formulas in the lower area of the screen either by name, category or history. So to get to a formula you usually tap twice. Also, it is nice that even if you input your data in Lbs, you get your results in both Lbs and kgs, like in the ideal body weight formula. One thing that I would like to have is an easier way to access a keypad, or even have a small keypad visible at all times (maybe as an option). There is a way to have a popup keypad, but that was not easy to activate (or at least not clearly identified).
Overall I would rate this program at 4.5/5 stars. It is also freeware, produced by Skyscape.
